Certification of Small System Installers
Renewable Energy Sources
The Ministry of Energy, Trade, Industry (MoEEB), within the framework of the Regulations “K.D.P. 374/2015: on the Promotion and Encouragement of the Use of Renewable Energy Sources (Certification of Installers of Small Scale Renewable Energy Sources Systems) Regulations of 2015” (the “Regulations”) makes the:
- Receiving and checking applications for registration in the register of small-scale installers of Renewable Energy Sources systems.
- Maintaining and managing the register of small-scale installers of RES systems.
- Issuing certificates of competence to installers entered in the register.
Registration in the register certifies the abilities and qualifications of a natural person to carry out installations of small-scale RES systems with a nominal capacity of up to 30kW.
Installers may register in one or more of the following categories:
Installers of biomass boilers and heaters
Heat pump installers
Installers of solar photovoltaic systems
Installers of solar thermal systems
Before registering in the register, interested parties should:
- Have the academic qualifications, the professional experience and the required types of training listed in Annex III of the regulations of Decree 374/2015 on the Promotion and Encouragement of the Use of Renewable Energy Sources (Certification of Installers of Small-Scale Renewable Energy Systems) Regulations.

Attend a training programme run by an authorised body and pass a theoretical and practical examination organised by an authorised examination body.
Lists of approved training bodies and approved examination bodies are available. -
To submit an application to the Energy Service together with the required certificates for their registration in the register. A fee of €200 + VAT must be recorded together with the submission of the application.
The application for registration in the Registry can be submitted by post or in person at the offices of the Energy Service or sent to the email address atsoutis@meci.gov.cy or energyservice@meci.gov.cy. -
Have a certificate of registration as an electrical engineer or electrical installation contractor from the Electromechanical Service (only applies to Category C: Installers of solar photovoltaic systems).
Registration in the register has a duration of six (6) years. After six (6) years, the installer's registration is renewed provided that:
(a) the installer provides a certificate of attendance of shorter training cycles by an authorized training institution, regarding new technologies, legislation and standards concerning the RES systems he specializes in .
(b) the installer pays the registration renewal fee of €80 + VAT.
Payment of the registration fee may be made by
- At the accounting office of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry at 6 Andreas Araouzou Street
- At the Provincial Offices of the Ministry of Energy, Trade, Industry and Commerce
- By bank transfer. For payment by bank transfer, please attach the details of the Government Account.
The details of the remittance should show:
- Title of paying company or name of applicant
- The purpose for which the payment is made (e.g. payment of the registration fee in the Renewable Energy Plant Installers' Register - PV systems, etc.)
